Kathmandu.
The Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee has appealed to the locals to remain vigilant stating that the water level in the Bagmati River may fluctuate during the tunnel test. The committee has stated that Sundarijal will arrive soon and some of the water will go directly to Bagmati as the water has been sent for tunnel testing since Falgun 10.
"As water will reach Sundarijal within a day or two, there will be miking from Sundarijal to Balkh to stay alert."
Rajendra Prasad Pant, information officer of the committee, said that they should be vigilant as the amount of water could increase at once. He said, "As water will reach Sundarijal within a day or two, there will be miking from Sundarijal to Balkh to stay alert." The tunnel, the main infrastructure of the project, which was started almost two decades ago, was completed last year.
The committee had tested the tunnel in June last year after the construction was completed. The accident happened when the door was opened during the test. The committee has re-examined the incident after correcting the error. If no major problem is found in the tunnel after the completion of the test, water will be sent to the water distribution system of Kathmandu Valley within the next month.
The long awaited completion of the project of national pride has also raised hopes among the people of the valley. It is believed that the problem of drinking water in the valley will be solved after the regular distribution of water.
The project has constructed tunnel, head work and two water treatment plants. The necessary infrastructure for water distribution has been constructed by the Project Implementation Directorate while the distribution work will be done by Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited.
