Melamchi water from poorly maintained pipe: Danger of flooding of Kathmandu roads

Melamchi water pipe in Kathmandu,  #The Bagmati Post

Many years have passed since the people of the valley counted the days of Melamchi water. However, as advertised, the water has not come yet. Last year, a jumbo team, including Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, announced that it had started pumping water from the tunnel to the Sundarijal-based treatment plant and brought water from Melamchi, but many problems remained the same.

Melamchi water was brought to Sundarijal on Falgun 22 as a test after a long time of construction. That water was released in Bagmati for a few days. However, Melamchi water has not yet reached the homes of the people of the valley. Information Officer of Melamchi Drinking Water Project Rajendra Pant informed that preparations are underway to distribute the test from the second week of April. However, as he said, the distribution system does not look easy. There is no condition to distribute through new pipes.

Although old pipes are being prepared for distribution, they are worn out. Preparations have been made to fetch water by digging old pipes. Leaking water in old pipes once a year has caused leakage in some places and flooded the roads. Now when Melamchi water comes, it will be distributed by adjusting the daily time. Due to which, most of the roads in Kathmandu are in danger of flooding, the project itself has admitted.
