In the parliament with the decision of the Supreme Court to abolish the unification of the CPN (Maoist) four parties have come into existence
The Supreme Court has revoked the unification of the CPN (Maoist) on the issue of naming the CPN (Maoist) and revived the previous UML and the previous Maoist Center.
Now, there are four parties in the parliament, the CPN (UML), the Nepali Congress, the CPN (Maoist Center) and the Janata Samajwadi Party.
Previous UML had 121 seats in the House of Representatives. It won 80 seats in the direct election and 41 seats in the proportional election. Previous UML MP Sanu Shiva has passed away and now has 120 seats in the parliament.
Nepali Congress had won 63 seats. He won 23 seats directly and 40 proportionally. His Vijay Kumar Gachhadar is suspended in a corruption case while another MP Mohammad Aftaf Alam is in jail.
Similarly, the CPN-Maoist Center had won 53 seats in the election. It has 36 direct and 17 proportional seats.
After the unification of the Janata Samajwadi Party, there are now 34 MPs. Before the unification, there were 17 MPs from the Rajpa and 17 from the Samajwadi Party. Harinarayan Rauniyar of Janata Samajwadi has been suspended on corruption charges while Resham Chaudhary is in jail.
Parties with two members of parliament can form a parliamentary party. Rastriya Janamorcha, Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Nepal Mazdur Kisan Party, which have not been able to form a parliamentary party, have 1-1 MPs. There is one independent MP.
Once these four parties are formed, there are four ways to form a government. First, the UML (121) and the Congress (63) together have a majority (138) in the House of Representatives. Second, the UML and the Janata Samajwadi Party (34) also get a majority. Third, the UML and the UCPN (C) (53) also get a majority. Fourth, the Congress, the Maoist center and the Janata Samajwadi can form a government together.
