Traffic police have banned riders from wearing jackets and trousers (protective gear). To prevent distortion, the Metropolitan Traffic Police has stated that it has been banned to wear protective gear known as Pathao with the consent of the ride sharing company.
According to Traffic Police Spokesperson Shyam Krishna Adhikari, the decision was taken with effect from Wednesday after riders used to travel offline and there were many incidents of insecurity due to jackets. "From Wednesday, Pathao riders will not be allowed to wear protective gear, known as Pathao, and action will be taken," the spokesman said. He said that the issue of banning Pathao operation was not true.
According to Pathao Nepal, the decision was taken in consultation with the traffic police keeping in mind the safety of riders and passengers. Pathaoki Marketing Manager Suraksha Hamal said that the rider was insecure due to Pathao's jacket and the rule of not wearing protective gear was brought to the rider as the practice of carrying offline passengers has increased.
"We have issued a notice not to wear rider protective gear with effect from Wednesday, which is expected to end the practice of carrying offline passengers and also protect the rider," said manager Hamal. The practice of carrying offline passengers has led to an increase in passenger insurance and other problems, Pathao said.
