The festival of colors Holi has officially started across the country from Sunday.
Holi, which is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Falgun under the lunar month, is being celebrated in the hills on Falgun 15 and in the Terai region on Falgun 16. Uddhav Karmacharya, a priest of Taleju temple in Basantapur, informed that the festival related to the burning of Holika and Krishna Leela has started from Sunday.
According to Karmacharya, Krishnalila is commemorated by placing an idol of Lord Krishna with Gopini in Nasal Chowk. Karmacharya says that from today, the way has been opened for Holi to color each other in a cordial manner. The 30-foot-high CHIR is erected by the Manandhars of the capital's Dhalsikwa toll.
According to Jayanarayan Karki, museum officer of Hanuman Dhoka Durbar, the team of Nepal Army's Shardul Jung Gulm brought a branch of Mayal tree from Shleshamantak forest and made a CHIR in Mohankali Chowk, Trishul Chowk and Nasal Chowk of Hanuman Dhoka Durbar.
The Holi festival ends after the three-storey rags tied with colorful clothes are taken to Tundikhel on the night of Phagun Shukla Purnima and burnt.
