Mario Draghi sworn in as Prime Minister of Italy

Mario Draghi has been sworn in as Italy's prime minister on Saturday. Italy, the eurozone's third-largest economy, has been in political turmoil for weeks.

He was sworn in by President Sergio Materella. "I pledge my allegiance to the republic," he said at the swearing-in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Speaking to reporters after taking the oath of office, he said he would remain sincere for the political stability of the Republic of Italy. He said, "I will work ethically and prudently to move forward in solving the economic and social problems caused by Covid-19 in Italy."

With the arrival of the prime minister, who is also the former head of the European Central Bank, the Italian people, political parties, industry and businessmen are optimistic that Rome will play a key role in reviving the economy that has been crippled by the Covid-19, according to Italian media.
