In Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla, women have cordoned off the electricity office after three days of severe power cuts. The service recipients in Simkot have been agitated as the power load has been cut for more than 12 hours daily. A local woman of Simkot Gaonpalika-6 has surrounded the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Heldung Distribution Center Humla alleging gross negligence.
Even if there is power supply for some time in the afternoon, the power
will be cut from 4 pm and power will come only after 10 pm which is causing problems
in the reading of other students including students preparing for SEE which
brings the women of Ward No. 6 are outraged.
Hansakala Rokaya, a woman of the ward, said that the unavailability of
electricity on time has created more problems for students and the elderly.
Umakala Rawat, a local, complained that the students who were able to go to school after a long delay had been prevented from doing their homework by the teacher. "Electricity does not come when it is needed, it comes all day when it is not needed," Rokaya said. Another local, Suntala Rawat, said that the problem was caused by the power cut from noon to 12 noon.
Acting Chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Raj Kumar Bohara, said that the service recipients had to face load shedding due to shortage of water at the source of Humla. He said that the demands of the locals would be addressed but the power cut would not end. Due to the severe load shedding in May, there has been a problem in the daily life of the people of Simkot, including the students who have come to Simkot from the villages around the district headquarters to study for tuition.
