A campaign to collect details of national identity cards will be launched at all local levels of Taplejung by the end of March.
Details of national identity card have been collected in Taplejung through the District Administration Office since July 27. According to Chief District Officer Jharendra Prasad Chapagain, 2,362 people, including 1,352 men and 1,010 women, have so far filled in the details of their national identity cards.
Bishnu Hari Upadhyaya, director of the National Identity Card and Registration Department, said that an action plan has been prepared to start collecting the details of the national identity card from mid-February for a maximum of 15 days. Data collection will be done in each ward.
According to the department, there will be one to six data collection stations in a ward depending on the size of the population in the ward. Director Upadhyaya said that the department is preparing to collect at least 40 details daily from one station.
The department has also stated that registration campaign will be conducted at Vadastar, verification and issuance of national identity number and uploading of data in the central system will be done from now on. The Department of National Identity Card and Registration on Wednesday also sought the cooperation of all local level chiefs and administrative officers in Taplejung for data collection.
At the program, the heads of all the local levels assured that the local level would extend all possible support for the collection of national identity card details. Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Ghanendra Maden, said that making this campaign a success would be a major achievement at the local level as it is a great festival of national importance.
Jitendra Basnet, Director General of the National Identity Card and Registration Department, urged all to fill in their details on the same occasion, making it clear that the government will not spend another program and budget for the collection of identity card details. The details of the collected citizens are being prepared for election purposes and the voter list and identity card can be used as voter identity card, said Director General Basnet.
