The prices of edible oil and broiler chicken have gone up in the market this week. According to the Nepal Retail Trade Association, the price of soybean oil, which declined two years ago, has risen to Rs 15 per liter again.
The wholesale price of soybean oil, which had dropped to Rs 200 per liter, has reached Rs 215 again, the association said. Apart from oil, prices of other food items remained stable, said Dhrub Adhikari, a member of the association.
This year, broiler chicken meat has become expensive by up to Rs 30 per kg amidst bird flu rumors. The price of meat, which was Rs 250 to Rs 60 per kg last year, has now reached over Rs 290, according to the National Meat Entrepreneurs' Association.
The association said that the price has gone up due to the same demand and the decline in production due to bird flu rumors. He said that the price of Rahu fish, which is widely sold in the market, has also gone up by Rs 30 per kg. The prices of meat including khasi, beef and bangur have not changed this week.
According to the Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market Development Committee, there has been a modest increase in the price of green vegetables this week. The price of mushrooms has gone up by Rs 30 to 40 per kg, the committee said.
Similarly, the price of bitter gourd has also gone up by Rs 30 per kg. Prices of vegetables such as greens, potatoes, banda and lamb have declined slightly, while the market price of spicy agricultural produce has declined to some extent.
Prices of vegetables including dried onion, garlic, coriander and dried chilli have come down by Rs 30 per kg. Similarly, the price of fruits has declined by Rs 10 to Rs 30 per kg.
While the price of Fuji apple has come down by Rs 30 per kg, the price of banana, grape and Nepali orange has gone up by Rs 10 per kg.
