Since Chaitra 15 (March 28), Tribhuvan Airport to be open only for 18 hours daily

 Nepal Civil Aviation Authority has reduced the operating period of Tribhuvan Airport. An advance date has also been fixed for this. According to airport spokesperson Dev Chandra Lal Karna, the operation period of the airport will be only 18 hours daily from March 28 (Chaitra 15). 

At present, the airport is operating 21 hours a day. However, he informed that the flight duration is being reduced as there is no expected pressure on the landing and taking off.  After the outbreak of the corona virus, domestic flights are now satisfactory.

International flights, however, have not grown as expected. Tourist arrivals have not increased due to various restrictions imposed by the government on tourist arrivals.


According to spokesperson Karna, the airport will be closed at 12:30 pm. It will only open at 6:30 in the morning. 

In the meanwhile, the airport operating time has been fixed in advance for the purpose of moving the time by managing the slots by the companies flying and landing at night, Nepal Civil Aviation Authority has stated.


At present, Nepal Airlines Corporation flies to Narita, Japan at 1 am.




Daily average 230 flights


At present, an average of 230 flights are taking off and landing from Kathmandu Airport. Of these, 15 flights have been to international destinations. There are 115 domestic flights on average. When the same number of ships land, this number reaches 230. 

According to spokesperson Karna, the number of passengers on domestic flights has also been satisfactory. However, the number of passengers on international flights has not increased as expected. According to the Immigration Department, 1,637 international passengers entered Nepal from Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday. On this day, 1,313 passengers have left Nepal.
