Kathmandu.
Indian Army Chief MM Narwane has commented that Nepal is a
country with a lot of Chinese investment.
Addressing a seminar on 'Security Challenges Developing in the Northeast
and the Way Forward', the Indian Army Chief said that China's growing presence
in India's neighboring countries including Nepal and China's unilateral attempt
to change the status quo in the disputed border area with India has created an
atmosphere of conflict and mistrust." he said
"Nepal is our traditional long-term partner, with huge Chinese
investment in recent times and Nepal is currently going through political
instability," he said.
He also said that the dimensions seen in India's neighboring countries will
directly affect the security environment in the north-western region of India.
He claims that China has become aggressive in the Indo-Pacific and has become
more intolerant towards weak countries.
He also said that China was increasing its regional dependence through the
Belt and Road Initiative. The Indian military chief noted that growing tensions
between the United States and China have contributed to regional imbalances and
instability.
