Controversial statement corrected by Mahato after all-round criticism.


Kathmandu: 

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Rajendra Mahato has corrected his controversial statement that Nepal should be a pluralistic state.


Mahato, who is also a leader of the Rastriya Janata Party (RJP), corrected his controversial statement in a press release on Saturday night. He has even claimed that his statement was distorted and misrepresented. Stating that he is fully committed to the national unity, integrity and national unity of Nepal, Mahato has made it clear that no one should be confused about this.


In the statement, Mahato said that serious attention has been drawn to the misrepresentation and misinterpretation of his statement. 

He mentioned that he has accepted the same aspirations in multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious, multi-cultural, geographical diversity as mentioned in Article 3 of the constitution.

Stating that he believes in Nepal's national independence, geographical integrity, national interest and prosperity, the statement issued by Mahato said that the state is a common nation of all castes, classes, communities, religions and genders.


He also mentioned that he would be included in the task force formed to amend the constitution to address his dissatisfaction with the constitution.

As soon as Mahato was sworn in on Friday, he said that he would prepare a liberation movement to take Nepal to a multi-national state.

Mahato is ready to correct his controversial statement after strong opposition from leaders of various political parties, student organizations and civil society.
